Minecraft And Screencastify Install

Students will be able to login to Minecraft: Education Edition using their AISD email address. (Students can find this feature in the AISD Portal's User Profile menu.) Immediately after entering an AISD email student will be asked to enter their student ID and password into an AISD Portal pop-up window. This will occur regardless of what device the student is using.

Directions For Installing On Austin ISD Student Chromebooks

Austin ISD Chromebooks capable of running the Android version Minecraft: Education Edition will require you to access the Minecraft installation page from the Google Play Store. Student Chromebooks should find the Google Play icon in the Chromebook Shelf at the bottom of the screen.

Only district approved apps are available for download in the Google Play store app. Click on the Minecraft Install button on Google Play.

Instructions for Installing On Non-Austin ISD Windows Computers

Click the purple Windows button to download Minecraft: Education Edition Windows Desktop Edition. The downloaded file needs to be located and opened. It should be located in an entirely new tab at the bottom of your browser, or in the Windows Downloads directory.

The Windows operating system will guide you through the installation process. Choose your language and accept the End-User Licence Agreement. Continue clicking Next until asked to click the "Install" button. It is possible that the installation will take a while before you can see the Finish button. This will close the installation.

Instructions for Installing Macintosh Computers

Click the purple MAC button to download Minecraft Education Edition for Macintosh. You'll need to find the downloaded file, then open it. (It is likely to be in a new browser tab at the bottom of the browser, or in the Downloads folder.)

The Macintosh operating system will walk you through the process of installing. Choose your language and then agree to the End-User License Agreement. Continue clicking Next until you are required to click the Install button. It is possible for the installation to take a while before you can see the Finish button. This will close the installation.

Once an instructor has installed Minecraft Education Edition on an Austin ISD student iPad, students can access Minecraft. The app can be found in the Creator Apps group on the iPad during school hours.

Installing the Screencastify Screen Capture Extension

A great way to demonstrate learning is to capture an actual demonstration of the learning via video. Screen-capturing video is a fantastic way for teachers to present a demonstration of an online activity or for students to capture an electronic product using their recorded voice describing the product.

Screencastify is an Austin ISD approved Chrome extension that allows staff and students the ability to add the extension for themself through the Chrome Web Store.

Austin Independent School District Chrome Web Store is available to students. From there, any approved apps can be downloaded. This is the only way to install a Chrome app or Chrome extension on an Austin ISD Chromebook. Open the Chrome launcher on the Chromebook. Search for and launch the Chrome Web Store App. To view the approved apps list, click the Austin Independent School District link. Locate and install Screencastify on this page.

Capture Your Video

Once the Screencastify extension is installed, all students can create a video up to 5 minutes long. Make sure you practice your group presentation before you start recording. Keep in mind that the presentation should not exceed 2 minutes long. This video demonstrates what it looks like when you record the video of your world.

Optional: Edit Your Video

You are as imaginative as possible in creating your world or recording your video. Screencastify lets students edit their video. Your free AISD account includes a simple video editing tool. Screencastify's support site provides more information about editing videos.
