History of Ulster University

The New University of Ulster, which was founded in 1984, was the forerunner to Ulster University. Then, in 1984, it merged with Ulster Polytechnic. It was divided into four Northern Irish campuses at the time, including locations in Belfast, Coleraine, Derry (Magee College), and Jordanstown. Courses are also offered at two more branch sites in London and Birmingham. This is the first institution to provide degree-level programmes in Biomedical Sciences, as well as online degree-level courses. The university's Virtual Campus was opened on October 8, 2001. 'The University of Ulster Freshwater Laboratory' was the institution's prior laboratory name. The Ulster University College Union (UCU) and its Ulster University branch formally administered the university management declaration "UCU Declaration of Dispute" and implemented it in April 2012.
