Moving
Loki paced back and forth in their bedchamber, his eyes never leaving Eva as she sat on the bed, her hand resting on her rounded belly. He could hardly contain his excitement as he waited for the moment when he would feel his and Eva's baby kick for the first time. It was a moment that he had been eagerly anticipating for months, and now that it would happen any day now, he could hardly contain himself.
Eva watched Loki with a small smile, knowing how excited he was to feel their baby move for the first time. She had felt tiny flutters in her own belly, but so far the baby had made no big movements like kicking. and it was almost as if their daughter was waiting for her father to arrive before making her presence known. Oh, Eva was certain that their little one was a daughter, and she'd begun to think of their baby in such a way.
"Is it happening? Is the baby moving yet?" her husband asked for the hundredth time in the past hour.
Finally, Eva couldn't take it any more, and she gestured for him to come sit down beside her.
"No, I don't think I can remain still," he told her.
"Try please because you are driving me crazy!"
Upon hearing this, he sat down next to Eva on the bed, "Is it happening now?"
Eva giggled and rolled her eyes, "Darling, it's not something I can sch—" She gasped.
"What? What is it?" Loki asked, worry tinting his voice.
With a smile, Eva took his hand in hers, and then placed it on top of her stomach. She watched as his eyes widened, and he looked at her with wonder.
"Is that..."
"Mmmhmm, that's it. Your daughter is kicking," she replied with a smile.
Loki looked as though he would cry with joy as he felt their baby move around. When their daughter finally stopped moving, he kept his hand on his wife's stomach for the longest time, hoping she would start kicking again.
"I think she's probably gone back to sleep," Eva said gently, seeing her husband's disappointment as he withdrew his hand finally. She wanted to cheer him up so she told him, "I'm sure she'll be kicking again and soon."
"I hope so," he muttered, then realizing what he said, he looked at her, "I didn't mean that how it must have sounded. I can imagine being kicked a great deal by our child will at some point, not be comfortable for you!"
Eva laughed, "No, I've been told at some point her kicks may get uncomfortable, especially when my bladder becomes her favorite target, but believe me, I am happy to endure the discomfort. We're going to be parents, Loki. You and I are going to have our own little one to love and to raise!"
"Our own little one," Loki repeated, his voice sounding dreamy, "He or she are going to be a force to reckon with, just as we two together are, minkjære."
Eva laughed, feeling a sense of overwhelming happiness flood her being. She looked forward to the moment when she would hold her daughter in her arms for the first time. But more than that, she could not wait to see her husband's face the first time he holds their child.
For now, though, all that mattered was this moment, this tiny little life growing inside of her. She leaned her head against Loki's shoulder, feeling his warmth and love surround her, and knew that they were exactly where they were meant to be.
