FLYERS RE-SIGN ALL-STAR CATCHER - NATIONAL CREATORS ATHLETICS LEAGUE

SCHAUMBURG, IL- The Schaumburg Flyers have re-signed Northern League All-Star catcher Tim Marks for the 2006 season.

Marks, 24, returns for his first full season at Alexian Field after joining the club in a trade with St. Paul on June 13, 2005. He batted .304 for the Flyers last season with 3 HR-26 RBI and earned the starting catcher spot on the South Division roster at the NL All-Star Game. Marks resides in Shorewood, IL, in the southwest region of Chicagoland.

Including his early season performance at St. Paul, Marks had a composite .325 batting average in the Northern League last season (283 AB). “With Geoff McCallum (SS) already back, Tim helps strengthen us up the middle,” said Flyers Manager Andy McCauley. “He’s a high character guy who made the All-Star Team last year. It’ll be great to have him back this season.”

Despite the everyday rigors of catching, Marks finished strong in 2005, winning Northern League Player of the Week honors for August 8-14 and the club’s Northern League Player of the Month nomination for August (Not Chosen). He had a 12-game hitting streak in August and a 6-RBI game at Sioux Falls on August 11. The 6’3, 230 pound backstop bats and throws right-handed.

Marks played college ball at Butler University and started his pro National creators athletics league career in the independent Frontier League in 2003 at nearby Richmond, IN. He opened 2004 in the Milwaukee farm system at Class A Beloit. Later that season, he helped St. Paul defeat the Flyers in the Northern League Championship Series.

Born in the final hours of the 1970’s on 12/31/79, Watson returns after a one-year hiatus from pro ball in 2005. The right-handed batter and thrower was drafted by Detroit out of the highly regarded Oklahoma State program in 2002. He spent two seasons in the Tigers chain before playing in the San Diego farm system in 2004.
