The possible stat ranges of an item are based on the level of the item, but all items are guaranteed to have at least one stat within that range, unless it's an item that is unique or an item that is a God roll from a boss of a raid.
This is another aspect that could be changed by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to boost. However, as with the base equipment, this would have to be performed on a per-item basis, and the interface for comparing items will not show all the stats that could be that were gained or lost at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the odds of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the intensity of the properties. It does not, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player a chance to acquire better equipment earlier in the game and is thus more valuable in the initial game run than in later ones, since most players prefer higher weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.
Luck can also increase the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall chance of upgrading that increase with each new level of item. It is also possible to be increased by using anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons can spawn or be crafted by using the Luck property, which has an initial value of 40. These items can be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to give +40 Luck or to increase the existing Luck of the item up to 140.
Additionally there are certain items, such as the Hollow weapon that is infused with hollow can be outfitted to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items are available in the shops or made with the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items can be costly and not all upgrades will succeed. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chance of success of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item in the event that it fails.
When you upgrade an item, the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased by so much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail cannot be greater than 100%..
The luck of an item may influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has an average success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases that chance by an additional 5%.
Note that item upgrades are rendered above the inventory items therefore enchantment glints and other effects may be obstructed by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
