New Minecraft Skins With Default Minecraft Skins Recall Steve's Beard

Mojang has changed the default Minecraft skins, Steve and Alex and Minecraft Steve's beard has come back after years sporting a clean-shaven look. The blue-shirted Minecraft Steve was the original model. However many players believed that it was a smile. The model was later removed to make the default character more gender-neutral.

Minecraft Alex was introduced in 2014 as the default skin. Alex has green skin with long red hair and a ponytail. This makes it a more feminine version of Steve's. Helen Chiang, the Microsoft Studio head for Minecraft said in an interview with the company in 2018 that the company was looking to challenge gender stereotypes and present Alex and Steve with identical physical characteristics and capabilities.

Now, with the two options available to players a decision has been made to restore Steve's iconic goatee. A post on the Minecraft subreddit outlined the new skins that also improve the shading of Alex to give the second character an authentic three-dimensional appearance. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with many fans thrilled to see Steve's beard back.

Many users have expressed their satisfaction and are content that Steve has returned to the style of most official artwork - including his appearance in Nintendo brawler Super Smash Bros Ultimate. "I can understand why they originally took it off," says the most liked comment on the Reddit thread at the time of writing, "but it was clearly an integral element of Steve's style, and it appears that Mojang is also in agreement. Glad to see it officially back after many years."

Minecraft lead artist Jasper Boerstra took to Twitter to express his opinion on the new skin and said, "I'm happy you like the return of the beard!" Boerstra also notes that some of the classic bands and 'pillow shading' techniques are utilized in the new skins "to add a bit of the OG Jankiness," but asks players to comment on whether this choice is a good one or not. The skins also include classic designs, if you prefer the old-fashioned styles.
