While it may be more focused on customers and the impact they have on the motel's business directly than the indirect impacts, Motels generate greater revenue to communities through taxes and other charges. Even though a motel might not be within the heart of a city, it may still have an indirect influence on the local economy.

It appears to me, however, that the issue isn't the number or severity of the accidents but rather the number and nature of the accidents that happen when people drive from one motel along the highway to another. Also, it appears to me that the argument concerning the Commerce Clause is not really relevant in the first place. When you stop and consider it you realize that the Commerce Clause only has to apply if something is being operated for profit. Why is the Commerce Clause so important for motel businesses? Because some believe it allows them to discriminate against certain classes of people as well as to discriminate in favor of others.
This isn't the problem. The issue is that the United States government tried to use the commerce clause to shield certain individuals and benefit other people. The 1964 Civil Rights Act was an example of how the United States government tried to utilize the commerce clause in order to stop private businesses discriminating in hiring. In essence, the government was saying that if you decide to rent your motel rooms to African-Americans, you had to ensure that your customer service skills aren't discriminatory. Also, when you hire someone who is a part of the mafia or gook, you need to ensure that the person does not have mafia connections or any gook connections. This isn't necessarily a negative thing however the United States government, which was trying to protect its industry from protectionist tendencies, stepped into this dangerous slope.
In the Loving decision the Supreme Court held that the Commerce Clause did not give the federal government the authority to stop private citizens being targeted for discrimination during the hiring process. The court ruled that the Loving precedent that says that race, color, and gender should not be considered grounds to discriminate was not relevant. Private enterprises can now hire any person they want, based on their own preferences. Also, it is not the case that the authors of the Civil Rights Act wanted the state action doctrine to be a part of the Civil Rights Laws.
The background of the Civil Rights Courts exposes an America in which individuals were not able to be judgemental and did not have the right to be discriminated against solely based on their gender or race. That was the America the United States Congress adopted in the 1960's. It's the America that we hope to return. We can hopefully learn from the past and swiftly move past this awful moment in the history of our country.
