Notch Asks Community For Permission To Track Player Data In Minecraft
Mojang's Notch is a smart person not just in terms of game design but also in the management of the company's 20 million or so Minecraft players. The designer posted an online poll on his blog to determine if his cuboid friends would be happy with the company's decision to collect anonymous data from their players.
Mojang currently tracks players only when they logs in to the game. Notch's proposal is to also track "non-private information" such as the length of your gameplay session, your PC's OS type and whether you're playing in single or multiplayer mode and whether you're playing via the client or through the web applet. servers gathered would be shared with the community, "as usual."
"Naturally the data you send will be completely anonymous," said Notch. "So it wouldn't contain any information about your session or your user name, and it wouldn't transmit any sensitive information that you don't want to share." We're amazed that this kind of data isn't being collected, to be honest. You can vote here for anonymity data collection or against an anonymity for those who are part of the Minecraft nation.
