A Rare Version Of Minecraft Is Being Revealed Ten Years Later


Over ten years since its release, a unique early version of Minecraft was thought to have disappeared. Minecraft Alpha 1.1.1 was released in September 2010 for the first time as the Java Edition. It was only available for three hours. Gaming archivists have now found it again.



Over the years there have been hundreds on hundreds of Minecraft versions. Fans have meticulously collected and archived a lot of them to preserve. One version called Alpha 1.1.1, also known as Seecret Sunday, was thought to be lost. It introduced fishing rods as well as the ability to sneak into Minecraft. However, it was found to have a bug that made the screen completely gray. Version 1.1.2 was released within hours.



The entire story of its rediscovery was revealed on Twitter by user @lunasorcery (via Kotaku), who found the lost Alpha 1.1.1. As Luna describes, Alpha 1.1.1 became a viral phenomenon or even a holy grail within the Minecraft archiving Discord Omniarchive and no one of them expected to find it.



Someone came across one of Luna's old tweets, and asked her about it. Minecraft Server List She later discovered an archive of minecraft.jar which was created on the same date as Alpha 1.1.1's release on September 18, 2010. Luna confirmed that the file was Alpha 1.1.1 and shared the information on Omniarchive, which then went down.



So I wrote in Omniarchive and it wouldn't be overstated for me to say that some people were noticing.



The reactions are enough to make you realize how massive this discovery is. I literally start shaking.
