Notch Asks Community For Permission To Track Player Data In Minecraft

Mojang's Notch is a smart guy not just in terms of game design but also in the management of the company's 20 million or so Minecraft players. 1so blog has posted a poll on his personal blog to find out the opinions of his cuboid players. feel comfortable with the idea of collecting various types of anonymous data from its users.

Mojang currently tracks players only when they logs into the game. Notch proposes to track "non-private" information such as gameplay-session length and OS type, as well as whether you are playing in multi-player or single mode and whether you're using the client or web applet. The community will then have access to the collected data "as normal."

Notch said that the data will be transmitted "naturally" anonymously. "So it won't include any information about your session or your user name, and it won't transmit any sensitive information that you wouldn't want to disclose." To be perfectly honest, we're a bit surprised this kind of data wasn't already collected. If you're part of the Minecraft nation You can make your voice heard by voting for or against data collection that is anonymous here.
