Otani, June 14th and 29th shot of the Season, 30 home runs for 3 Consecutive Years

Otani started as the third and designated hitter in the 2023 Major League Baseball (MLB) Chicago White Sox home game at Anaheim Angel Stadium in California on the 30th and played well with one hit (one home run), two walks, and two RBIs in three at-bats. In June alone, he hit his 14th home run in the MVP race.

Ohtani failed to hit in the previous four at-bats. In his first at-bat in the bottom of the first inning, he struck out against opposing starter Lance Lynn. In his second at-bat in the bottom of the second inning with a 4-1 lead, he also struck out by turning the bat on the slider.

Ohtani got walks in the fourth and seventh at-bats. In the fourth inning, Mike Trout hit a double and went to scoring position, and as a follow-up hitter, he got on base with four intentional pitches. In the seventh inning, he also picked up a walk with no outs and runners on first base. There was no follow-up.

Otani faced his opponent Randall Graveman in his fifth at-bat in the bottom of the ninth inning when the Angels were losing 4-9, and rolled up a slider that fell from an unfavorable ball count (1 ball-2 strike) to a low course outside (based on left-handed batters) to cross the left-center fence. It was a perfect swing.

The situation where the team was losing. Otani wasn't too happy. It was Otani's 29th homer of the season. Archie, who firmly maintains the No. 1 home run in both leagues. The gap with second-place Matt Olson of the Atlanta Braves widened to three. Following the 2021 (46) and 2022 (34), there is only one left to achieve 30 home runs for three consecutive years.
