Deepworld Launches A Kickstarter Project To Fund A Mac Beta
When I first met the guys who are creating Deepworld, a 2D Sandbox-style game of building similar to Minecraft at GDC in March, I told them that the project would be much bigger than they thought. Although 360 degrees all the way around have years of experience in developing software and servers running a massive game like Deepworld requires a significant investment. They appear to have reached an agreement. The game has spawned an Kickstarter project to raise some early funds for servers and development.
The group is offering a variety of prizes to its members such as your own servers and worlds, as well as art books and other swag. You can also consider buying your own items, names, and even pictures to play the game. The goal is to raise US$20,000 all in all and as of this writing, the guys have raised about $4,000. They say they want to pursue the project on full-time and this money will help them accomplish that goal.
I'm sure I'd like them to be successful. Deepworld looks great and I'm with you when I first was introduced to it. I think the Mac (and iOS) would greatly benefit from games like this.
