History
The institution was established as a limited liability business in 1959, and on August 16, 1961, it acquired its royal charter. The only other British university to open after World War II was Keele Institute. With its numerous Schools of Study, multidisciplinary curriculum, and creative organisational design, the institution has emerged as a leader in the sector.
The institution places a strong focus on interdisciplinary study, thus graduates of Sussex would be well-equipped with both the necessary core competences in a specific field of study and a wide range of supplemental knowledge and experience. For example, in their first year of college, science majors took classes in the arts, and vice versa for the arts majors.
