Well, in the said situation, I, for just one, feel that parents could do something worthwhile because of their kids' education by exerting all efforts to experience a functional cellphone right for an online class. However, you'll find varied explanations why some parents will not have to be able to provide their kids such as a result of poverty, joblessness, deficiency of education or motivation keeping up with current trends in education setup and delivery of learning especially this COVID-19 pandemic.
Anyway, you'll find positives and negatives of distance learning, specifically blended learning, for youngsters and oldsters alike.
PROS
1. Kids is now able to have enough navigating different applications around in an attempt to getting lessons absorbed, applied to their daily grind.
2. Parents can easily see how their kiddos are choosing their learning time. They may help them budget time to be able to do all task at hand sans getting other tasks forgotten. Teachers, much like me, are sending home guide because of their students, in the role of reference, for their subjects being taken to get a specific time, having a amount of minutes included.
3. Kids can instruct their skills in using the internet, say in researching to get a story to read, a photo to publish an essay on, and facts about important events ever sold especially during holidays along with other commemorative exercises in Social Science subjects, to say one.
4. Parents have time to aid their kids with their task in reading and writing, likewise the down sides their children encountering in numeracy, science and so on.
5. Kids have enough time being more talkative facing their camera or what while answering questions, sharing stories and also other activities where speaking may be the target especially on how they express themselves, with full confidence without the presence of in the flesh interactions.
6. Parents, mostly, have the chance to learn at the same time, form of creating a writeup on their previous schooling; of course, with updated info where irrelevant ones was changed to correct one, particularly with Science subjects, say variety of planets, and the like.
7. Kids in addition have an opportunity to become world citizens learning everything online of products and collaborating along with other learners all over the world. Yes, teachers should have a buddy teacher from another country, say a Science class from the Philippines co-learning with Science class in USA in regards to the different landscapes during wintertime, and, of course the sunny weather inside the Philippines. With videos, photos and stuff like that, both learners over these two countries could learn a lot from each slide presentation shared through Google Meet, Zoom meeting, among other technological tools suitable for this purpose.
CONS
1. Children with no reliable connection to the internet remain behind when it comes to online learning. However, with modules available around; well, everyone has to be able to discover the concepts, samples and deep learning after a conscientious teacher implements enrichment or remediation programs for those who are in need of those. Yes, creativity is vital toward providing each of the learning opportunities to kids facing technological challenges in online learning. Apart from lacking those gadgets like android cellphone, lappie or desktop, internet load also gets a hindrance, for who can afford such when parents are jobless, in dire poverty and you also know what.
2. Parents suffer stress even more when their kids cannot keep pace with their peers, neighbors competing using kids, and other scenarios about unequal opportunities, a sad reality majority within my class belongs to it wherein preserving the Juans is impossible to do.
3. Kids, those people who are enterprising and many types of, head for online cheating. Yes, you will find there's group chat where techniques to modules are being uploaded and a lazy bone will just copy paste those and viola, have the perfect score, the recognition later much like highest honors and so forth. Oh my gosh, this sorry condition of education is actually a training ground for future leaders who won't do sane things but to self-aggrandizement, and so forth.
There you go. If you be without any such challenges, you are lucky coping up with all these challenges, and would emerge victorious having continuity of learning amid this difficult time. However, grit, resiliency and perseverance, could be our saving grace when facing these glaring realities. It doesn't matter what challenges have been in our way toward teaching/learning journey, we're always expecting the best result through healthy effort. Keep head high, always. Keep safe, sane as well as a saint. Cheers!
