Notch Seeks Community Permission To Track Player Information In Minecraft
Mojang's Notch is a smart guy not just in terms of game design but also when it comes to managing the company's 20 million or so Minecraft players. Minecraftservers.Live posted on his blog a poll to find out whether his cuboid buddies would be happy with the company collecting anonymous data from their players.
Currently, Mojang only monitors when a player logs into the game. Notch's plan is to track "non-private information" like the length of a gameplay session, your PC's OS type, whether you're playing in single or multiplayer mode and whether you're playing with the client or through the web applet. The community will then have access to the collected data "as normal."
Notch said that the data will be transmitted "naturally" anonymously. "So it won't contain any information about your session or your user name, and it wouldn't send any sensitive information that you might not want to disclose." To be honest, we're a bit surprised that this kind of data wasn't being collected. You can vote here to support anonymous data collection or against anonymity in the case of the Minecraft nation.
