Mike Tyson (57) expressed his feelings, saying that his match with YouTuber-turned-professional boxer Jake Paul (27), scheduled for July, is not an official match but an exhibition match.

Tyson said this in an interview with Fox News aired on the 2nd (local time) and explained, “However, there will be no restrictions that are common in exhibition matches.” He went on to say that although this match is called an exhibition match, it is unknown what rules will be followed, noting, “This is a fight.”

Since his debut at the age of 19, Tyson remains a legendary player with 37 consecutive wins and undefeated streak, including 19 consecutive KO wins. His overall record is 50 wins (44 KOs) and 6 losses. He retired from professional boxing in 2005 and will step into the ring to face Paul on July 20, 19 years after his retirement.

Because it is an exhibition match, the match between the two is not included in the professional record. According to the BBC, in exhibition matches, players will wear larger gloves (16 ounces) according to regulations, and the match time per round will be 2 minutes instead of 3 minutes. Exhibition matches usually last 8 rounds, and although there is a referee, there is no scoring, so victory or defeat can only be determined by KO.

His most recent match was an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020, which ended in a draw.

Paul expressed his fighting spirit, saying, “Tyson is my idol, but he will have no mercy.” The match between Tyson and Paul will be held on July 20th at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
