North Carolina Legalizes Sports Betting

Sports betting has been legalized at two tribal casinos in North Carolina owned by Cherokee Indian East Band since Gov. Roy Cooper signed Senate Bill 154 on Friday.

North Carolina became the 19th U.S. jurisdiction to authorize sports betting since the 1992 Pro-Amateur Sports Protection Act was ruled unconstitutional in May 2018.

Construction of new sportsbooks at both locations will begin immediately and are expected to be completed by late fall. Hara's Cherokee Casino Resort will open a temporary location, now a Sound Bytes, at the Ultrastar Multi-entertainment Center, while Hara's Cherokee Valley River Casino & Hotel's The Book will be located near a promotion stage.

"It's an exciting time," said Brooks Robinson, the regional senior vice president and general manager of the Cherokee Casino in Hara. "We continue to strive to bring new experiences and opportunities to our customers and are confident that our new sports book will add entertainment to our customers and sports fans."

The bill exclusively allows properties in the two haras run by Caesars Entertainment to offer sports betting, including college sports betting, both in and out of the state, but is relatively limited.

First, sports and horse racing betting are classified as Class III games, which means they are limited to tribal lands. Also, neither online nor mobile wearing is available, which has become hugely popular in Nevada and New Jersey since the introduction of sports betting in the Garden State last year and is 80% profitable. In addition, these two casinos, located in the southwest of the state, are a five-hour drive from the capital city of Raleigh and a four-hour drive from Charlotte.

"It illustrates the government-to-government relationship between the Cherokee Indian East Band and the Raleigh State Legislature," Richard Snead, the head of the Cherokee East Band, told Cherokee One Feder. "By comparison, it's easier to get a bill through in Raleigh State than it is in DC. It's very difficult to get anything approved now because the situation is so polarized."  안전한 파워볼사이트

Bill Miller, president and CEO of the American Gaming Association, added in a statement, "Legalizing sports betting in North Carolina is a welcome step in the fight against dangerous and illegal markets. Providing North Carolina with legal alternatives to illegal offshore operators will help protect consumers and gaming integrity, develop responsible gaming plans, and provide an advantage for state and federal law enforcement in combating illegal gambling."
