Ground Coffee vs Coffee Beans

One of the dilemmas that most coffee lovers who like to enjoy the true flavours of coffee have is whether they should buy ground coffee or coffee beans. Some would say that it tastes best when you buy coffee beans and grind it yourself while others say it is just convenient to buy pre-ground coffee. Let us look at factors that will help you decide which one you should go for when it comes to buying your coffee.

Among the many reasons one of the important reasons why many coffee lovers prefer to buy coffee beans is that the flavours are still intact in the whole coffee bean. Even with the coffee bean the fresher the bean the better it is and for this reason, coffee beans are considered a better option if you are looking at it from the flavour point of view.

Coffee beans will retain the freshness and the flavours for longer. Once you grind the coffee beans you need to use it as fast as possible. Fresh ground coffee that is why is more intense when it comes to taste. Moreover, you can grind it to your preference based on how you are going to make your coffee. Some people use manual coffee filters or percolators while others make use of electrical coffee makers. Depending on how you prepare your coffee you can test various consistencies until you hit the right taste. This is not possible when you buy pre-ground coffee. You just need to go with whatever is packaged.

The disadvantage with whole coffee beans is that you would need a coffee grinding machine. If you have a very limited space in your kitchen then it would be difficult to accommodate a coffee grinding machine in your small kitchen.

As far as ground coffee is concerned, it is ready to use. You just need to open the packet, store it in an airtight container, and use it as and when required. This makes ground coffee the most convenient way to enjoy your coffee as long as you are ready to compromise on the flavours a bit. The challenge however with ground coffee is that it needs to be stored in perfect conditions for it to retain its remaining flavours. It is said that around 60% of the aroma is released from the coffee within the first 30 minutes. Whatever flavour and aroma is left will be intact only when the coffee powder is stored in the right conditions. You cannot expose the ground coffee to moisture at any point of time. It has to be stored in a dry place.

There are pros and cons with both forms of coffee. You need to decide based on your personal preferences. If you value flavours and aroma more than convenience then coffee beans would be the ideal choice on the other hand if you are hard pressed for time and you cannot afford the time for processing the coffee beans and if convenience is your priority then you need to go with pre-ground coffee.
