The great debate Meat vs Greens: Which is more sustainable in modern society?

"What is your logic supporting this statement? It is widely regarded that industrial animal production is extremely damaging to the environment and unsustainable." Let's think, is it the fact that I've received an honors degree in Sustainable Management or that a leading expert in Sustainable Management (one my professors) stated that eating meat is more sustainable than a vegan diet have any weight? The above answer is obviously not. That would be appeal authority and without supporting empirical data makes the argument pointless. However, empirical data fro Nature reports that an average omnivorous diet is more sustainable than an average vegan diet. These studies even prove that growing lettuce leads to three times the amount of Greenhouse gases than eating bacon. That stated studies do claim that a vegetation diet based upon kilogram of what is grown vs meat raised for consumption is better for the environment. These articles are misleading and true comparison would be the amount required to be grown to the meet the healthy nutrient intake of a grown adult, in which cases vegan diets and vegetarian diets are shown to be worse for the environment. I'll ask you this why do you believe that goats are sent to poor nations if crop yield is more efficient per calorie intake for milk yield? Would that not decrease the net production of food in an already dire situation? or why when agriculture is introduced production increases? There is also the observation that vegans and vegetarians tend to favor organic farming which is one of the most unsustainable farming practices. Even in this thread, the OP is asking for gluten-free bread. Finally, there are major environmental concerns over such products such as palm oil or even the fact that we running out room to grow crops. So in reality, the most efficient diet would be a Metaterrian diet consisting of genetically modified crops, Chicken, insects and possibly aquaponic farming. "This is the dumbest argument people make in favor of killing animals. The basis of your argument is that animals having life is something valuable?" I'd rather be alive, well feed, then eaten by an animal lifeform compared to the alternative. However, that's just a personal choice. Although, if it makes you feel better resort to name calling instead of actually probably deconstructing a point of view. "The more people refuse meat, the less of a market there is for meat, the less animals are killed." So why is so much food being wasted if that was the case? Do you honestly believe if I become a vegan today Woolworths or Coles will go "Alright, John Smith is not eating meat anymore let's reduce the meat production? How would they even know my name for starters? You didn't think of that, did you? "it's hard to criticise a vegan for animals dying for nothing when so many animals are killed during meat and dairy production without being eaten." Actually, it's very easy. https://www.chemwatch.net/194099/eating-lettuce-three-times-... https://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v515/n7528/full/nature... https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-017-06466-8 http://www.farmfutures.com/soybean/brazilian-farmers-running... https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs10669-015-9577-... http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-12-18/research-studies-energ...
