Finding the Oscars
Over the past decade, Oscar voters have shown increasing preference for live-action blockbusters over animated pics. The trend has been consistent over the last few years. In fact, in most cases, the voter simply selects the movie from a short list based on how well it performs at the box office. strefa kina Studio must use savvy marketing and advertising to position their movie in the right category with such a short list. Movie night promotions can help a movie get enough votes to make it rise to the top of the Oscar race.
Movies that debuted on streaming services, such as Disney's Mulan, and Pixar's Cars, are eligible for this year's Oscar Awards. According to Variety, for the upcoming Oscars, 17 animated feature oscar nominations will be made available to the public, with two more available for the Academy Awards ceremony. It is not uncommon for movies to receive several Oscar nominations, but no win. The Academy has struggled to eliminate movies from the ballot due to the short list of candidates. Word-of-mouth has helped certain movies rise to the top of the Oscar race.
It was no secret that Finding Nemo was on the verge of winning the Oscar for Best Picture. The film earned rave reviews upon its release, and it appears that the movie came into its own right before the end of its theatrical run. After premiering in June, it enjoyed strong box office results throughout the rest of the summer. Its high body count and great plot make it a favourite among viewers.
Other examples of a sleeper winning movie include last year's The Informant! and last year's Rise of the Silver Surfer. Both movies received strong notices from critics and won the Audience Award for Favorite Feature. Although Finding Nemo may not have the best odds, these movies should give hope to the Academy that this year's process will be easier with a few worthy contenders.
This year, the Co Directors category is a little different. There are still a number of notable filmmakers involved with the producing, directing, and acting parts of the animated feature films competing for Oscar recognition. It is difficult to narrow down the best picture winners due to the diversity of talent involved. It remains to be seen how Academy will decide which films will be entered into the best picture and director categories.
The Academy tends not to pay much attention to the original song or score in larger movies, but rather on whether the movie was successful on the big screen. This can be problematic when trying to get a nomination for an original score. The Academy seems to be more concerned with whether the movie is entertaining than the quality of the song or music. One solution to this dilemma is to remove the songs and only include their original score. For instance, instead of focusing on whether or not Enya, Skylar Grey, and Big & Rich have great voices, let's just focus on their music and how it helped to make the movie a hit. Although I don't know how this would affect Oscar voting, it does demonstrate how the Academy tends not to be as concerned about the entertainment value of a film than the voice.
