Short track speed track Hwang Dae-heon fouls world No. 1 Park Ji-won for two days in a row

Park fell while leading the 1,000m and was pushed out by Hwang Dae-heon in the 1,500m the previous day. Lin Xiaojun, naturalized among the men's national team and World Championships 'no gold', won three gold medals.

Dae-heon Hwang and Ji-won Park competed side by side in the men's 1000m finals at the 2024 International Skating Union (ISU) Short Track World Championships held in Rotterdam, Netherlands on the 18th. With three laps left, Hwang Dae-heon came to the front. Soon after, Park Ji-won, the ‘defending champion’ of this event, succeeded in overtaking the Incourse. Immediately after that, Hwang Dae-heon, trying to regain the lead, pushed Park Ji-won with his left hand. Park Ji-won lost his balance and was pushed to the fence. After the race ended, the referee disqualified Hwang Dae-heon.

Park Ji-won said, “I felt like I was being pulled and I didn’t have time to control my body. So he crashed into the fence and suffered a major shock to his body. “He felt like his mind was not clear for a moment,” he said of the situation at the time. Dae-heon Hwang did not respond to an interview in the mixed zone (joint coverage area) after the game.

A similar scene occurred in the 1500m finals the day before. With three laps remaining until the finish line, Dae-Heon Hwang, who was running in second place, pushed the leader Ji-Won Park with his body while overtaking the in-course race. While Park Ji-won was pushed to last place, Hwang Dae-heon crossed the finish line first, but the final result was a penalty.

Dae-heon Hwang received a yellow card for pushing Park Ji-won, who was running ahead of him, from behind in the final of the 1000m second race of the first competition of the 2023-2024 season ISU Short Track World Cup held on October 21 last year. Park Ji-won said, “I don’t think I have anything to say about the so-called ‘team kill’ with a specific player this season.”

Hwang Dae-heon, the men's 1,500m gold medalist at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, returned the Taegeuk mark last season due to reasons such as rest. Afterwards, Park Ji-won ranked first in last season's World Cup rankings and won two gold medals (1000m and 1500m) at the World Championships, the last competition of the season. Park Ji-won, who took first place in the World Cup rankings again this season, dreamed of another ‘spectacular finale’ through the World Championships. However, in the 5000m men's relay finals held after the 1000m finals, the Korean national team only won a silver medal and had to board a flight home with 'no gold'. Park Ji-won did not participate in the relay finals due to the shock of the 1000m finals.

On the other hand, Chinese representative Lin Xiaojun (Korean name Lim Hyo-jun, 28) finished this competition with three gold medals, winning gold medals in the men's 500m relay, the mixed 3000m relay, and the men's 5000m relay. Lin Xiaojun, who was Korea's leading male player until the 2019 World Championships, ultimately chose to naturalize in China after a conflict that led to a court battle with Hwang Dae-heon over sexual harassment.  온라인섯다
