Minetest, the Minecraft-like voxel game engine (and an uncomplicated game that comes with it) has a big new version that comes with Minetest 5.4.0 and it's worth a second go.
As we discussed in the Release Candidate stage one of the most important features for users in this version is that it is much easier mods using both small mod packs and complete games. Minetest was a game that allowed players to browse and download mods directly from the game. However it now downloads all dependencies mods require - making it much easier to find what you need and then load it into a game. It's no longer a matter of downloading one mod and then having to find all the individual bits it needs.
A few improvements were also made to the built-in game "Minetest Game". While it's not the most advanced, it can be used to show off the engine as well as to add modifications. Minetest 5.4.0 now comes with crafting guides, five more wood variations, as well as environmental sounds for active furnaces and lava, as well as multiple bug fixes and translations. It continues to grow slowly and slowly into something a bit larger out of the box.
Other features include the ability alter the cross-hairs when you point at objects freely binding mouse buttons, name tags for players now have semi-transparent backgrounds, a caverns choice to generate flat maps, and the 'place' and 'fig keys are easily set up. There are many bug fixes, including the inability of players to be able to access the inventories of others.
