A Pocketful of Essays by Roger Bannister - A Review

"A Pocketful of Essays" by Roger Bannister is a first novel written by the author. I enjoyed reading this book, especially because it took a fairly long time to get around to reading it. Bannister, in fact, wrote this book several years before his death in 1990. In this volume, he presents what he considered to be his masterpieces - a series of eight essays that cover everything from the early American settlers to the infamous "Cold War."
There really isn't one single thing that stands out about this collection. Instead, Bannister gives us a look into his personal life - in a way that is a bit different than many writers who create a persona for themselves and leave us in the dark about what they did for a part of their lives. His descriptions of his family are moving and unforgettable. One might even liken his descriptions of the outdoors to something like a best-seller. There is no doubt that Roger Bannister loved the outdoors and was very familiar with the country.
Most of us would identify with Roger Bannister's passion for the outdoors. His love of nature encompassed not only the flora and fauna of the wilderness, but also all of its history. This was evident in the number of works he produced during his lifetime, a number of which were on buildings designed or inspired by the wild. A pocketful of essays on a large variety of topics gives a clear picture of Roger Bannister's passion for the beautiful scenery of the American countryside.
The book covers everything from the American pioneer lifestyle to his travels through Europe. Although Roger Bannister lived for a good many years, we see a younger man at work. why not check here shines through in these pages where he relates stories about his adventures, experiences, and one particularly remarkable one - his meeting with a bald eagle. One of Roger Bannister's most famous quotes is "One day I'll be a man...and the other day I'll be the most powerful man in the world!"
Regardless of what age you are, reading a pocketful of essays on a subject that interest you is a wise choice. It's a wonderful way to broaden your horizons. It can help you to better understand the world around you and it can provide an appreciation for the things that are so unique about our country. Roger Bannister certainly knows what it means to possess a certain power. He bragged about having lived up to a ten foot pole in height, and the power to push himself over when he reached that magical marker.
Roger Bannister could have easily achieved this if he had not fallen ill while on a business trip to England. Although it may seem a bit out of place in this review of his life, I can tell you right now that it changed everything for Roger Bannister and for us as we watch his story unfold in the pages of a New York Times Bestseller called A Pocketful of Essays. The story was that of a man who had lived a rather interesting life up to this point, yet would reach the pinnacle of athletic achievement, breaking a myriad of records, before falling ill just as he was about to win the Olympic Weightlifting gold medal.
This is a very entertaining and quick read with excellent character building. As expected with a pocketful of essays, there are times when the plot is a bit thin and some of the events are a bit predictable. However, the overall story is a very interesting one that will make you think about life in general. One thing that this book did very well was bring the reader into Roger Bannister's shoes. There were times when he seemed like a typical young man going out with his buddies to a local disco, only to then find himself working out in a gym and training with one of the best athletes of our time.
A pocketful of essays volume 1 by Roger Bannister is a quick and enjoyable read. It is a light read that won't take much of a time investment. It is a great introduction to the life of Roger Bannister as it gives a quick overview of what has made this athlete famous. It also shows what is so special about athletes in general and what is it about athletes that attracts so many people to their respective sports.
