Minecraft: Java Edition Locks Out Old Accounts In March

In the year 2020 the developers made an announcement about major changes to Minecraft: Java Edition, as players would soon have to switch from a Mojang account to an Microsoft account in order to continue playing. This is a bit 'early' in terms of relative time, since we're still not quite at the deadline but the developers have confirmed the date and sent out the final announcement for account migration.

As from March 10, you'll no longer be able to play Minecraft: Java Edition with the Mojang account. To "improved security, player safety" the developers would like everyone to switch to Microsoft accounts. They offer free Minecraft caps to encourage users to do so.

Here are the complete details about how you can migrate your account. Java Edition will be supported as normal following the change, and will remain a separate entity from Bedrock. This is purely a unification of the account system. Minecraft-server-hosting.Net 'll be able to keep your old username, too but you'll need to have an Xbox gamertag to go with it.
